This converted 17th century farmhouse is situated in Clifton, a small village 3 miles south of Penrith and 6 miles north-east of Pooley Bridge and Ullswater.
It offers 6 bedrooms, some of which are en-suite. All include TV, radio, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The White House also offers a bar, lounge and dining room.
The whole place had a very homely feel to it and the owners were more than happy to help you, although you could keep yourself to yourself if you wanted. The price was quite competitive by Lake District standards and the breakfast was full of fresh, locally sourced produce. Room a bit small, but clean and perfectly acceptable.
They certainly make you feel very at home here, unlike a lot of faceless hotel chains, and it’s also quite easy to get to being near the motorway. The building is full of character as you’d expect from something dating back to the 17th Century and the staff were friendly and full of useful suggestions.
