Dalton-in-Furness
Dalton-in-Furness, known simply as Dalton, is a small, pretty town just north east of Barrow. It was once the most important town on the Furness Peninsula.
Attractions
Dalton Castle is situated on the Market Place as was once a safe have for monks from Furness Abbey seeking refuge from Scottish marauders. Just north of Dalton is the South Lakes Wild Animal Park. The award-winning zoo is less than a mile from the town and the walk is relatively easy. Alternatively buses can be caught from Tudor Square.

There isn’t a huge choice of accommodation in Dalton in Furness. Hotels in and around the town include Clarence House and Abbey House.

Transport
Dalton train station lies on the Furness Line. Trains from Carlisle to Lancaster, and Manchester Airport to Barrow, call at Dalton and other towns in the area (Ulverston, Grange-over-Sands, Carnforth etc.).
