The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel

The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel reopened in 2007 after a 12 month refurbishment programme that saw it transformed from a dilapidated old building into a modern boutique hotel. Originally built in 1871, its rooms feature designer en-suite bathrooms, oversized beds, flat screen TVs, and internet connections.

The hotel’s stylish Consort Bar stocks a good range of real ales, continental beers and wines, while the Regency Function Suite can cater to social events for up to 250 persons.

The hotel is situated just across the road from Barrow train station.

As we arrived by train this proved to be an ideal place to stay being opposite the railway station. We were quite impressed by the level of fixtures and fittings and the room was extremely comfortable. The staff were ok and tried their best. The only thing still missing is a lift, which apparently is well on its way.

I think this is one of the best places to stay in the area. It seems to have undergone a recent refurbishment and now has a lot of modern conveniences like flat screen TVs and internet access. I thought it was also quite good value for money.
