Blackburn Cathedral

Blackburn Cathedral started life in 1826 as St Mary’s Church but was elevated to cathedral status with the creation of the Diocese of Blackburn in 1926. It has been renovated and extended much over the years, the original church now forming the cathedral’s nave. It is the only Anglican cathedral in Lancashire.

It boasts an impressive collection of century modern art, one striking example being The Healing of the Nations by Mark Jalland. This 8m diameter abstract sculpture features fibre optics that creates changing patterns of light and hangs on the exterior of the building.

The cathedral is open to visitors and features a café and shop. Pre-arranged guided tours are also available.
