Lewis Textile Museum

Note: The Lewis Textile Museum closed in 2006. Its collections moved to a new gallery at the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery in April 2007.

The Lewis Textile Museum opened in 1938 to celebrate Blackburn’s contribution to the textile industry and is named after local manufacturer TB Lewis. It contains many examples of historic textile machinery including replicas of James Hargreaves’ Spinning Jenny, Samuel Crompton’s Mule, Arkwright’s Water Frame and many other interactive exhibits.

The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday and is situated on Exchange Street, opposite the town hall and close to the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery. Admission is free.
