Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery

Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery is housed in a Grade II listed building in the heart of Blackburn town centre.

It is home to a number of well-presented collections and displays including:

  • South Asian Gallery – Illustrates the history and culture of Blackburn’s Asian population.
  • The largest collection of Christian icons in the UK outside London.
  • Over 1,000 Japanese woodcut prints.
  • A large local history collection that includes a large number of items relating to the town’s history. It includes exhibits from the town’s Lewis Textile Museum which closed in 2006.
  • The Hart Collection – thousands of rare books, manuscripts, and coins from around the world.

Opening times for the museum are 12.00 – 16.45 Tuesday to Saturday. The museum is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and bank holidays.

Blackburn Museum is on Museum Street in the town centre, just north of the town hall and within walking distance of the bus and train stations.

Admission to the museum and temporary exhibitions and events is free.
