In recent years Blackburn town centre has undergone massive changes. One of the biggest was the £66 million extension to The Mall, the town’s main shopping centre. The extension, completed in the summer of 2010, saw the addition of a massive new Primark store. In 2011 Blackburn’s famous indoor market relocated to the ground floor of The Mall.
Shopping in Blackburn is now also a more pleasant experience thanks to the recent installation of numerous piece of public art such as the The Braid at Sudell Cross, Possibility on Fleming Square, and The Woven Globe and Transition, both on Church Street.
Blackburn has a large Asian population and many colourful spice and food shops can be found here, particularly in the Whalley Range area of town.
Shopping parks in Blackburn include the Peel Leisure and Retail Park, Townsmoor Retail Park, Peel Retail Park, and Nova Scotia Retail Park.
No shopping trip to the area would be complete without a visit to Accrington’s historic market or the Oswaldtwistle Mills a shopping village in Oswaldtwistle. Other shopping centres in the area include Darwen Market and the Accrington Arndale.
