Blackpool International Airport

Blackpool International Airport opened in 1909 but it wasn’t until 2005 that a major airline (Jet2.com) based an aircraft here. In 2006 a £2 million refurbishment of the terminal was completed, giving the airport a capacity of 2 million passengers a year.

Getting There

Car

Leave the M6 at junction and join the M55 for Blackpool. At the end of the M55 take the A5230 and follow the signs.

Visitors using satellite navigation systems should note the postcode for Blackpool Airport is FY4 2YQ.

Taxi

A taxi rank is situated directly outside the arrivals hall.

Train

Squires Gate Lane train station is approximately 5 minutes walk from the airport. There are frequent trains to Preston.

Tram

Starr Gate tram stop is around 10 minutes walk from the airport. The tram runs along the Promenade past the Pleasure Beach, South Pier, Central Pier, Blackpool Tower, North Pier, North Pier, Norbreck Castle and on to Fleetwood.

05/08 - Blackpool International Airport has been sold to Balfour Beatty. The international construction and investment group has purchased 95% of the regional airport from Mar Properties, a Northern-Ireland based property developer.

Jetstream Express has ceased flights between Blackpool Airport, Aberdeen, Southampton and Belfast. A statement on the company’s website says ‘With immediate effect, Jetstream Express have ceased operating the routes to Blackpool, Aberdeen, Southampton and Belfast. All unused portions of the tickets will be refunded shortly and you will be contacted regarding this using the contact details provided to us. We regret this action and the inconvenience it may cause but these routes have not proved viable.’

Blackpool Airport has gone smoke free, one month before the nationwide ban comes into effect.

The best thing about Blackpool Airport is that it is literally just outside the town centre.
