Ashton Gardens

Ashton Gardens is St Annes is a fantastic example of a formal Victorian park and has recently been restored to its original splendour.

The park was established in 1874 during the initial development of the town and was originally called St George’s Gardens. In 1914 Lord Ashton purchased the gardens and gave them to the people of the town.

At the centre of the park is the imposing St Annes War Memorial, erected in 1923 in honour of men of town who died during World War I. To the north of the park is a pleasant rock and water garden with stone bridge. Other features include a children’s playground, bowling greens, and a rose garden.

In 2006 Fylde Borough Council successfully bid for £1.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It was used to restore the infrastructure of the park and move the Ashton Institute, a colonial-style pavilion, to a new location close to the main entrance.

Ashton Gardens is located in the hear St Annes town centre. The main entrance, on St George’s Road, is just a short walk from St Annes-on-Sea train station.
