What are the dates for the Blackpool Illuminations?

The Blackpool Illuminations 2009 will begin on September 4 and run until November 8.

The lights will be switched on by comedian Alan Carr at 9.25 pm on September 4 at a purpose-built stage close to Coral Island on the Golden Mile. He will be joined by Kate Thornton, JLS, Tony Christie, Madness and other celebrities.

The Wild Mouse at Blackpool Pleasure Beach opened in 1958 and is one of only 3 remaining traditional wooded Wild Mouse rides in the world.

Although it is the smallest adult rollercoaster at the Pleasure Beach, it is one of the park’s most popular and most exhilarating rides.

The Wild Mouse was designed in-house, modified in the 1960s, and completely refurbished before the start of the 2008 season.

The Irn Bru Revolution at Blackpool Pleasure Beach was the Europe’s first 360 degree when it opened in 1979.

It was designed by Arrow Dynamics, a US-based roller coaster design company.

This video shows a trip to the top of Blackpool Tower (height 158 m, 518 ft). The footage includes the Walk of Faith glass floor and some of the sights that can be seen from the top (Central Pier, South Pier, Winter Gardens etc.).

The Tower Aquarium at Blackpool Tower is oldest part of the attraction. It dates back to around 20 years before the tower opened in 1894 and was originally called Dr Cockers’ Menagerie and Aquarium. It remained open while the tower was built around it.
