Lever Park
Set on the West Pennine Moors between Bolton and Chorley, Lever Park was once owned by Lord Leverhulme, the Bolton-based entrepreneur who founded Lever Brothers (now Uniliver). In 1902 he donated it to the public who have since enjoyed its terraced gardens [map], woods, trails and replica of Liverpool Castle [map].
The Great House Barn [map] is open throughout the year offers guides to the park, a café, picnic area and toilets while Rivington Hall Barn [map] hosts dances, exhibitions and is a popular meeting spot for local motorcyclists.
The tower at Rivington Pike [map] stands on the moors above the park and can be seen from miles around. Originally the site of a warning beacon, it now attracts thousands of walkers on Good Friday.
