T Wright
T Wright, known to many as Tommy Wrights, is an off-licence and wine merchants in Horwich, near Bolton. Established in the late 1890’s this family-run firm stocks a range of wines and spirits that is the envy of merchants up and down the country.
Visitors are always surprised to discover that in addition to the off-licence at the front of the building, Wrights also boasts seven cellars, a tasting room, and a large warehouse.
Take the stairs down to the basement and discover the sprawling white-washed cellars. There’s a cellar for Red Burgundy and Rhone including Beaujolais, a second for Bordeaux, and a third for French white wine, Champagne and some specialist German wines. The fourth cellar is home to wines from Italy, Spain and Portugal, while the fifth features those from the Americas (mainly California, Chile and Argentina). Wines from the Commonwealth occupy the sixth cellar. The seventh ‘secret’ cellar is reserved for customers with an allocation of rare or restricted-supply wine.
In addition to wines, T Wright offers over 200 malt whiskies, plus good selections of fine cognacs and armagnacs, vintage ports, spirits, liqueurs and bottled beers.
Upstairs the elegant tasting room features a huge, inlaid wooden table; big enough to seat twenty two guests and accommodate the 400 glasses that are often used at a tasting.
