Wycoller

Wycoller is a small village lying 6 miles north east of Burnley. It was a busy weaving village until the Industrial Revolution and the invention of power looms when it was almost deserted and many of its buildings dismantled for their stone.

In 1973 Lancashire County Council purchased the land surrounding the village and created Wycoller Country Park, restoring many of the cottages and banning traffic from the area. The ruins of Wycoller Hall stand near the centre of the village and are thought to have been the inspiration for Ferndean Manor in Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre.
