Peckforton Castle

Despite having the appearance of a medieval castle, Peckforton Castle was actually built in Victorian times when follies were the rage. This Grade I listed building is now a popular hotel and wedding venue.

38 rooms or ‘bed chambers’ are scattered around the maze-like building. Finding your room is half the fun of staying here.

Peckforton Castle is situated near the Cheshire village of Tarporley, around 15 miles south-east of Chester.

Attended a Wedding at this lovely Castle and can say on the whole this was a very pleasant experience. However some constructive criticism may help you decide on any intended stays. There are no lifts as this is a grade 1 listed building. However Lift(s) are planned in 2011. If you are over 60 or have a disability you may find the numerous flights of stone stairs difficult especially when carrying your luggage to and from your rooms. The car parking areas are a good walk from the hotel receptionm although you are allowed to park your vehicle near to their reception area whilst you transfer your luggage to your room. Some people may find the lighting dim especially in areas giving access to the hotel rooms. If you are used to a large bed ie: KING SIZE you will only find a normal 4'6" width bed with a mattress well past its sell by date. If you are diabetic and need to store your Insulin or medication in a fridge this hotel cannot provide you with a fridge in your room even at extra cost to yourself. So unless you want a great trek to and from their kitchen fridge take your own means of storing your medication. The hotel is clean and the food provided during your stay is excellent but is not cheap and bar prices for all drinks border on rip off! If you can live without the bar however the ambiance and wild life provide the visitor with a magical experience they will not forge. Very friendly staff!

The Peckforton Castle is exceptional. The rooms are outstanding and comfortable. A stay here is a must. Built of fine stone (from Staffordshire I think) and though not an ancient castle the structure and setting are awesome. One is stunned by it's beauty, stone masonry and architecture.
Views from some of the rooms and over Cheshire are amazing. The Cellar bar is candle lit and ever so romantic. One can sit and imagine "How it was in the days of "Richard The Lionheart" and "The Knights of King Arthur".
Believe me this is an experience not to be missed.
The restaurant could be deemed as expensive and yes there are eateries close to the Castle that are great. But why drive or take a taxi. Relax, sit back and let the excellent Peckforton staff serve you in their outstanding restaurant and using the best of Local Produce. Excellent food, a fine glass of wine washed down with a liquer coffee or better still a pint or G&T in The Cellar Bar before retiring for the night, and returning after a night of bliss for a breakfast that is plentiful and provides the perfect start to the day.
Finally, watch the Peacocks that adorn the lawns and walls of the castle and do not to forget to bring your camera.
This is a popular venue for weddings, but I must say in no way did this interfere in our stay and experience.
We have enjoyed all our stays at Peckforton Castle and will continue to take the opportunity to book a night or two there.

We stayed here for a wedding and could not have been happier. The kids absolutely loved it as there was so much to explore. The food and service was also very good and we would be happy to stay again without the slightest reservation.

Superb building and great value if you book at the right time.

We were astonished at how good this hotel was for the money we paid. The building is superb and I'm sure the whole experience will be unforgettable for us. There appeared to be so few people there that we felt we owned the place. It was fantastic!

I've just deleted 2 comments for this hotel. Bad reviews are fine but when the same person posts 2 reviews and pretends to be 2 different people we don't allow it. Bear in mind we can identify where comments are being posted from.

Very romantic hotel only 15 minutes drive from Chester. Dinner was excellent and great value. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only complaint was that car park was muddy.
