Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry

The Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry tells the story of the Cumbrian people and their rich social heritage. Exhibits include reconstructions of a typical Lake District kitchen, a traditional chemists shop, and Arthur Ransome’s study.

There’s also a collection of mid-20th century photographs taken by Westmorland Gazette photographer Joseph Hardman and a display tracing the development of the Arts and Crafts Movement in Cumbria.

The museum is owned and operated by the Lakeland Arts Trust, who also look after the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Blackwell.

Facilities include an onsite car park (pay-and-display), a coffee shop, and gift shop.

Opening Hours

The Museum of Lakeland Life is open from Monday to Saturday. Opening times are 10.30 am to 5 pm (between November and March the museum closes at 4 pm).

Entrance

Admission for adults costs £5. Tickets for children (over 5) and full-time students are £3.50.

Location

The museum is situated in the former stables at Abbot Hall (now the Abbot Hall Art Gallery).
