Ambleside

Ambleside is situated around ½ a mile north of Windermere and is a popular base for hikers and mountaineers.

Visitors can take a cruise on the lake with Windermere Lake Cruises. They operate from the harbour at Waterhead.

The cinema at Ambleside is fantastic (Zeffirelli's). Visiting here is like going back to the old days of cinema. A real gem!

Ambleside has the best selection of restaurants in the Lake District. Lucy's is my favourite. Zeffirelli's is good too if you like vegetarian food.
