Applegarth Hotel

We enjoyed a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The room was clean and tastefully decorated and the staff were helpful, and informative. The location is unbeatable and there are great leisure facilities available at nearby Parklands free of charge.

The last person to write a review seemed to have a terrible time, but we certainly didn't experience any of that when we were there. Ok, we didn't have cause to complain about anything, but you certainly didn't get the impression that a complaint would be treated in that manner. Our stay was very nice and hassle free.

If I could have given this a zero rating, I would have. My partner and I made a polite and constructive complaint to the owner that the mattress on our bed was broken and that a missing handle on a long window in our room meant it would be extremely easy to fall out of the window if off-balance. The owner told us to "F**k Off, I don't need t**ts like you in my hotel". When I said I would be taking the matter further, he laughed and said he was "bomb-proof".
Prior to our discussion with the owner we had witnessed a distressing situation when he attempted to throw out a young woman carrying a baby who was visiting an elderly resident as “children are not allowed in my hotel”.
The bedroom was tiny and bore no relationship to the rooms shown on the web site, the food was scandalously over-priced (pub food in small portions at haute cuisine prices) and the whole experience was akin to Fawlty Towers without the good humour. I cannot believe this man is in business.
