Armathwaite Hall Hotel

Enjoy the high life and stay at the magnificent Armathwaite Hall Hotel. This 17th century stately home is situated in 400 acres of deer park and woodland at the northern end of Bassenthwaite Lake and is undoubtedly one of the Lake District’s most glamorous properties.

All of the 43 rooms and suites look onto the grounds or lake and have en-suite bathroom, radio, satellite TV, direct dial telephone, hairdryer and hospitality tray.

At the Lake View Restaurant, chef Kevin Dowling creates both traditional English fare and classical French cuisine using local seasonal produce. The restaurant has been accredited with one AA Rosette.

Guests of the hotel enjoy complimentary use of its spa. Facilities here include a heated indoor swimming pool, sauna, gymnasium and steam room. Other activities on offer at Armathwaite include clay pigeon shooting, quad bike safaris and fishing.

We were well and truly looked after in this fabulous hotel. The service from the staff was first class, as was the food. (Eat your heart out, Gordon Ramsay)

This must be one of the most relaxing places in the Lake District. The building is lovely and the grounds are magnificent. The room was immaculately clean and contained all the necessary accoutrements and the staff were very friendly and efficient. We only ate here twice, but it was excellent on both occasions.

My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic romantic weekend here and could not fault it in any way. Both check in and out were smooth and efficient and the room was absolutely beautiful and very well appointed. The staff were extremely polite and attentive and a real credit to the place.

We only had dinner here so cannot comment on the rooms, but the food was amazing.

We got married at Penrith register office on 11th August and we arranged to have a meal afterwards at Armathwaite Hall after 'coming across the hotel by accident. The welcome we had on arrival was excellent. Nothing was too much! The four course meal (Table d'hote) was outstanding. We had coffee and after lunch drinks on the patio overlooking the croquet lawn, Bassenthwaite Lake and the mountains. It was idyllic. The staff were attentive without being pushy and the whole atmosphere of the place was just magical. The lounge was just magnificent yet so homely. We both want to go back for a proper stay. Thank you for making our special day even more special than we could have possibly anticipated.
Our next visit to the Lake District is booked for January 09 and although we are not staying at Armathwaite we will be visiting on a couple of occasions for one of its afternoon teas and also to have a special evening meal.
A gem of a discovery.

Great views of Skiddaw mountain. Afternoon tea here is a delight.

The grounds are very beautiful and were great for walking and our room had a great view. My only complaint was about the TV. It was a bit old and didn't have a very good picture.

Armathwaite Hall are trying to build an 18-hole golf course but have been refused planning permission by the Lake District National Park Authority. They are appealing against the decision. Armathwaite Hall has a real chance of becoming the Lake District's first 5-star hotel if they get the golf course. Without it, I fear that it will never get that status.

Fabulous hotel in a great setting. Has a great lounge serving afternoon tea. Lots of comfy chairs and an inviting open fire.
I would recommend this hotel to anybody and will definately stay there again.
