Haweswater Hotel

The Haweswater Hotel is the only building on the shores of Haweswater. It was built in 1937 to replace the Dun Bull Inn, lost when the valley was damned and flooded to supply water to Manchester.

Peace and tranquillity are the order of the day here. The rooms have no televisions or telephones, and not all are en-suite. Smoking is strictly forbidden throughout the hotel, even on balconies.

Amenities include a restaurant, public bar, and onsite car park.

Must be about as far away from civilisation as you can go in the Lake District - right in the middle of nowhere. Don't stay if you can't occupy yourself because there is nothing to do but sit and relax, they don't even have TVs. The hotel is also starting to look quite tired in places and not every room is en-suite! Still enjoyed it though as it was so different and a bit like going back in time.

I absolutely loved it here, but I can also imagine it being a total nightmare for some people. I don't know if they have found a niche or if they just can't be bothered to buy anything, but there are no phones or TVs and mobile reception is either poor or non existent. If you really want to get away from it all, this is your spot!
