The Mortal Man
The Mortal Man is a 17th century inn renowned for its spectacular views of the Troutbeck Valley. It enjoys a great reputation for good food and beer, but also offers accommodation.
12 bedrooms are available, each with an en-suite bathroom, TV, radio, telephone, trouser press, and hospitality tray. One boasts a 4-poster bed.
The unusual name derives from the verse on the inn’s sign ‘O mortal man that lives by bread what is it makes they nose so red? Thou silly fool, that look'st so pale,'Tis drinking Sally Birketts ale’.
