Old Man of Coniston

The Old Man of Coniston is the highest mountain in the Furness Fells and the seventh highest in England.

The most popular climb to its summit begins at St. Andrew’s Church in Coniston and takes around 5 hours. The view from the top is breathtaking and includes Coniston Water, Morecambe Bay and much of the southern Lake District.

I am 9 years old and climbed the Old Man of Coniston in August 2008. It was a group activity, for something exciting to do during our stay at Kirkbeck House, Coniston. It's a fun walk to do. I definitely recommend it.

Mathers, Marco and I did the climb last January. The views were superb, and the Bluebird and Old Man bitters in the Black Bull when we got down tasted even sweeter than before. All in all excellent walk to the summit. I would definitely do it again.

Me and my four mates have climbed the old man mountain this weekend on a camping trip to Coniston. It took us around 4 and a half hours from our tent to the peak, the supplies we took included 3 crates of Stella Artois and a multi-pack of crisps. The views were awesome even though it was very cloudy. I would definitely would recommend it just for the satisfaction of reaching the peak.

On a clear day you can also see Scotland and the Isle of Mann.
