Sharrow Bay - Relais & Chateaux

This is an absolutely gorgeous place and well worth the money if you really want to spoil yourself. The food is out of this world and the staff are incredibly attentive.

We treated ourselves to a weekend here for a special occasion and were not disappointed. The room was amazing and contained many antiques and the staff could not have been more attentive and professional. Fantastic food!

Total luxury - but it does come at a price.

Jan 08 - City centre restaurants in Manchester and Liverpool have failed to gain a coveted Michelin Star in the latest edition of the Michelin Guide to Great Britain and Ireland published yesterday. The North West restaurants retaining their single star were Juniper in Altrincham, Northcote Manor in the Ribble Valley, the Arkle at the Chester Grosvenor, L'Enclume in Cartmel, and Sharrow Bay on Ullswater.

I sincerely hope the food will be exceptional as I am lunching with my wife on Sunday August 18th. As it is a special occasion we are both looking forward to our meal. I trust this is a one off comment.

I treated a friend to lunch here on May 17th. My how things have changed in the few years since Brian & Francis had it. The waitresses & the sommelier were quite attentive during lunch but when I wanted to pay the bill I could find no-one except a surly man (East European?) who to my consternation wandered off with my credit card before returning with it & a hand-set for my PIN. The standard of furnishings is no better than most good hotels I have been in & the food also no better than my local & superb restaurant here on the edge of the New Forest. If I sound underwhelmed by my experience, it is because I am. I was surprised also, at not being asked if we had enjoyed the food after paying my bill. Extraordinary!
