Arnside is a quiet holiday resort at the mouth of the Kent Estuary. It boasts an elegant Victorian promenade with excellent views over Morecambe Bay of Grange-over-Sands and the Lake District fells.

Attractions

The famous walks across the treacherous sands of Morecambe Bay start at Arnside. The walks are led by the official Queen’s Guide to the Sands and last around 3½ hours. For more details and dates contact the Morecambe Tourist Information Centre.

Arnside Knott, part of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a 500 ft limestone hill offers excellent views of the Lake District and the Pennines. It is a haven for birds, rare butterflies, orchids and boasts an excellent 2 mile walk. Arnside Knott is owned by the National Trust and the walk starts at their car park.

The oldest building in the area is Arnside Tower. This pele tower was built in the 14th century as a place to seek refuge from the looters and bandits that roamed the region (Border Reivers).

Transport

Arnside train station lies on the Furness Line, connecting the town with Barrow-in-Furness, Ulverston, Grange-over-Sands, and Lancaster.

Visitors arriving by car should leave the M6 motorway at Junction 35 or 36.
