Crook O’Lune

Immortalised in one of Turner’s paintings the Crook O’Lune is one of the most picturesque spots in North West England. Here the River Lune meanders through an idyllic wooded setting, passing under two magnificent bridges.

The Crook O’Lune Picnic site offers car parking, toilet and picnic facilities. A footpath leads to Gray’s Seat; the point where Turner painted his masterpiece.

The village of Caton is approximately ½ mile to the east.

This a very beautiful part of the world and we have spent many happy times here at very little expense. The area is outstanding and plenty of things to do many fine hotels and restaurants or just paddle with the grandchildren in the Lune.

It's very beautiful here. The view as you come off the car park is fantastic (I believe this is where Turner painted his picture?). The cafe at the car park also does great bacon butties.
