Ye Olde Fighting Cocks

We were going to stay here and decided to have something to eat before we booked. Thank goodness! We waited 55 minutes for our starter only to have it come at the same time as our main meals and the food was disgusting! We ordered the kids a combo consisting of pizza, fish fingers, chicken nuggets and potato wedges (not very healthy l know but it was the holidays, a little junk food is allowed!). The pizza had been cooked to something resembling red cardboard - the cheese had disintegrated and everything else except for the wedges (which were 1/4 of a potato) was fried to death! The waitresses were dressed in clothes that barely covered their modesty and showed their bellies and their tops were sleeveless - sorry but for me that's a no no when serving food. Our fish was off! So please do not eat here! On the plus side, there was a nice play area for the kids!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The setting is gorgeous with a beautiful view of the estuary and you are not very far from the Lake District, but paying far less. They do a very good breakfast and there is plenty of entertainment in the form of traditional pub games or live music on a Saturday night. Really enjoyed it!

Stayed here after spending some time in the Lakes and wish we'd spent longer here. It was way cheaper for exactly the same or more, and there was a really good atmosphere among the guests and staff. The room was spotless and the food and drink was excellent.
