Speke Airport opened in 1930. After the completion of a massive redevelopment in 2002, the airport was renamed Liverpool John Airport in honour of the famous Beatle. It is now the leading low-cost airport in the North of England.

Car

Leave the M62 at junction 6 and follow the A5300 to the A561. The airport is clearly signposted.

Bus

There are frequent services from Liverpool (Lime Street station and Paradise Street Interchange) and Manchester Piccadilly.

Train

There is no train station at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. However, there are frequent bus services from Lime Street, Liverpool South Parkway and Hunts Cross train stations.

Jan 08 - Liverpool John Lennon Airport has installed two wind turbines to contribute towards its electricity needs and help minimise its impact on the environment. If successful, the airport plans to install further turbines to increase levels of sustainable power generation. Management believe the airport is the first in the UK to install wind turbines.
The airport has also recently welcomed several new retailers to its terminal building. Go Pizza, World in Motion, Bo Shoes and Antler have joined established tenants such as Boots, WHSmith, and Starbucks.

Budget airline FlyGlobespan is to suspend their service between Liverpool John Lennon Airport and New York’s JFK from October 2007. The Scottish airline says the move is necessary because of low passenger numbers and technical problems.

VLM is suspending its flights from Liverpool to London from July 1 2007 due to lack of business.

Wizz Air will begin flights from Liverpool to Bucharest on October 1 2007. The service will operate 3 times a week.

Plans for a 157-bedroom 3-star hotel at the aiport have just been approved by Liverpool City Council. Completion is expected in 18 months.
