Albert Dock

Liverpool’s Albert Dock opened in 1846 as a combined dock and warehouse system. They were designed to accommodate sailing ships, but the advent of powered vessels heralded their decline and eventual closure in 1972. Recent redevelopments, costing in excess of £100 million, have seen the area transformed into Liverpool’s biggest tourist attraction housing numerous museums, hotels, bars and restaurants including:

We stayed at the Camponile Hotel right next door. Lovely clean room overlooking the dock. Recommended

There's also a Premier Travel Inn here which is pretty good and fairly cheap.

Albert Dock was opened by and named after Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria.
