The Elephant Yard shopping centre in Kendal opened in 1999 on the site of the old Elephant Inn.
It houses mainly high street stores such as Next, Hallmark Cards, Laura Ashley, Peacocks, and Boots, plus a handful of independent stores including Gates Travel (travel agent), Bagot Optometrists, Dinky Shoes (children’s shoes), and Items (home furnishings).
The Kendal branch of the NatWest Bank and a Costa coffee shop are also here.
Elephant Yard is located on Stricklandgate in Kendal town centre. There’s a car park right next to Elephant Yard on Library Road. It’s operated by South Lakeland District Council and has parking spaces for around 50 vehicles. Other car parks nearby include the large multi-storey at the Westmorland Centre, and the car park at the Marks & Spencer superstore to the rear of the centre.
