Manchester Arndale
The Manchester Arndale, known as the Arndale Centre to locals, is currently the largest city centre shopping mall in the UK. A multi-million pound refurbishment was completed in 2006 and it now looks as spick and span as its out-of-town rival, the Trafford Centre.
There are over 200 shops at the Manchester Arndale. The biggest include Next, Topshop, Wilkinson, BHS, Argos, Aldi, Boots, HMV, WHSmith, and Sports Direct.
The Hub offers competitively priced household goods store aiming to be the general merchandise equivalent of TK Maxx. The company, the brainchild of Poundland co-founder Dave Dodd, opened one of their first stores at the Manchester Arndale in 2010.
Shops opening here in recent years include Luke, an independently owned premium menswear store, Clas Ohlson, a Swedish hardware and household goods store, and Bose.
Other high street names here include Game, New Look, Bank, Apple, CEX (sells and exchanges electrical and entertainment products), Wilkinson, Disney Store, Waterstones, Pulp, Gamestation, Foot Asylum, USC, Hawkin’s Bazaar (unusual gifts and gadgets), Early Learning Centre, Goldsmiths, Jane Norman, G Star, All Saints, Evans, Scotts, and Office.
Independent stores include Jake Shoes, plus Hidden Corner and Luvyababes (fancy dress).
A full list, together with an interactive store guide, is available on the official Manchester Arndale website.
Manchester Arndale Market
The indoor market at the Arndale reopened in 2006 after a massive refurbishment. It is divided into two sections; food/restaurants and non-food.
The food market offers a greengrocer, fishmongers, lots of small eateries and deli counters offering dishes from all over the globe, a food court, tea bar, and even a small real ale bar.
The other area of the market features a wide variety of stalls selling products such as shoes, clothes, electrical goods, beauty products, mobile phones, bags, jewellery, and cards, or offering services such as key cutting, manicures, haircuts, and clothing alterations.
Restaurants
The 800-seat Food Court offers several fast food outlets including Harry Ramsden’s, McDonald’s, Wing’s, Spud-U-Like, Pizza Hut Express, KFC, and Subway. It’s situated on the Market Street side of the centre.
