Castlefield - Manchester
Castlefield is an area of Manchester that was, for a long time, a derelict industrial area. In recent years the area been regenerated and many of the warehouses and buildings here have been converted into bars, restaurants and apartments. The area was in fact Britain’s first designated urban heritage park.
Dominating the area is the Museum of Science and Industry. Other sites of interest include the remains and reconstructed parts of the Roman Fort of Mamucium. In fact the name Castlefield, is the short form of ‘Castle in the Field’, the name given to the area after the fort was abandoned.
With its open spaces, canals, viaducts and bridges, al fresco drinking and dining is Castlefield’s forte. Restaurants and bars in the area include Dimitri's and Dukes 92.
