Manchester Art Gallery
The Manchester Art Gallery reopened in 2002 after a £35 million renovation. It features numerous collections and galleries including:
The Fine Art Collection
A vast collection internationally renowned for its Victorian and Pre-Raphaelite treasures. On show are masterpieces such as The Hireling Shepherd by William Holman Hunt and Cheetah and Stag with Two Indians by George Stubbs.
The CIS Manchester Gallery
Features works by famous local artists such as Lowry and LS Lowry and Adolphe Valette, complemented with those of more contemporary Manchester artists.
The Gallery of Craft and Design
This part of the gallery was once a theatre, but is now the home of over 1,000 objects including furniture, ceramics, glass, textiles and metalwork.
Admission to the Manchester Art Gallery is free. Audio tours are available from the information points in the entrance hall. The gallery is located on Mosley Street in the city centre, close to Chinatown. The nearest Metrolink station is St. Peter’s Square.
