Royal Exchange Theatre

Manchester's leading theatre company is based in the historic Royal Exchange, once a major cotton trading centre.

The Theatre itself is one of the most unusual performance venues in the UK. A seven-sided steel and glass module sits within the hall, containing a stage surrounded by seating on all sides.

The Studio is a separate 100-person capacity venue that hosts performances from touring theatre companies, poets, and more.

Every Friday throughout the season free entertainment is offered in the Great Hall. Exhibitions are also held here.

For a full programme of theatrical performances and events visit the official Royal Exchange website.

Facilities at the theatre include a restaurant, bar, and a craft shop. Backstage tours and a costume hire service are also offered.

Tickets can be purchased online from the official website. Alternatively telephone the Royal Exchange box office on 0161 833 9833 or visit in person. Box office opening hours are Monday to Saturday 9.30 am to 7.30 pm (6.15 pm for telephone bookings).

The Royal Exchange is situated in Manchester city centre, between St Ann’s Square and Market Street. The nearest Metrolink station is Market Street. Visitors arriving at Piccadilly train station can catch the free Metroshuttle bus to the Royal Exchange. The theatre is a 5 minute walk from Victoria train station. The nearest car parking is at the NCP Market Place car park on Blackfriars Street.

Hotels near the Royal Exchange include the Lowry and Renaissance.
