Shops & Shopping Centres in Manchester

When the plans for the Trafford Centre were approved in 1995 many feared that it would lead to the decline of shops in Manchester city centre. In fact, quite the opposite has occurred. In the aftermath of the IRA bombing of 1996 the area most devastated by the blast was regenerated and reborn as the Millennium Quarter, home to high-class stores such as Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and the Triangle. The once-maligned Arndale Centre has also seen large-scale redevelopment.

Other areas of the city have also seen development. One example is the Northern Quarter, an area rapidly filling with independent stores and specialist shops.
