Manchester United Museum and Tour

Manchester United is arguably the most successful football club in the world. Chelsea may now be winning more trophies, but United are still way ahead in terms of commercial success and worldwide support.

It’s possible to just visit the museum but most visitors also opt for the tour. If you do, book early to avoid a long wait for your allotted slot. We didn’t and had to endure a couple of hours in the waiting area with hundreds of American school kids.

The highlights of the tour for most are opportunities to view the players’ dressing rooms, walk down the tunnel and sit in Fergie’s seat. As on match days, encroachment onto the pitch is forbidden.

Old Trafford is situated at the Quays. Other attractions in the area include the Imperial War Museum North and the Lowry.

Jan 2008 - Manchester United has announced record profits and turnover for the year to June 2007. Gross turnover reached £245 million, a record for a British football club, while profit rose to just under £60 million. Major factors contributing to the increase in revenues were the increase in stadium capacity to 76,000, higher ticket prices, and a lucrative sponsorship deal with AIG.

Shut up Paul. It's a great tour and the back room facilities are great.

You've got to be careful when parking around here on match days. There's a lot of crooks operating bogus car parks. They basically set up camp on private land (not theirs) and charge people for the privilege of parking. They wear 'official' looking jackets but are anything but. They even have the cheek to charge people to park on residential streets. And don't think your car is being looked after while you are at the match. As soon as the game starts they're off.

The best way to get to Old Trafford is to get a tram to Altrincham from Piccadilly train station. They run every 5 minutes or so. Get off at the Old Trafford stop.

Like the review says, book in advance.

The tour is very good and informative. It's quite a suprise though to see that the backroom facilities weren't really that impressive.
