Christmas Treat for Ballet Lovers

The St Petersburg Ballet Theatre is putting on two shows at Blackpool Opera House in the run-up to Christmas. The first performance, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, will take place on December 3, followed by The Nutcracker on December 11.

New Trains for the Lakes Line

First TransPennine Express will mark the launch of its new 185 class trains on the Lakes Line at an official ceremony at Windermere station on December 11. The new diesel trains boast air conditioning, quality seating, a first class section, security cameras, a GPS passenger information system and offer improved disabled access.

The 100 mph trains will travel between Barrow-in-Furness, Windermere and Manchester Airport. They were first introduced on the Hull-Manchester Piccadilly route in March 2006.

Keane at MEN Arena

Indie group Keane have announced a nine-date arena tour that includes a visit to the MEN Arena on March 4 2007.

Passenger Figures Soar at John Lennon Airport

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has announced impressive passenger statistics for October 2006. An additional 45,000 passengers used the airport compared with the same month in 2005. The airport is confident is will achieve its forecast of 5 million passengers for the whole of 2006.

Lakes Premiere for Beatrix Potter Film

Miss Potter, a movie about children’s author and illustrator Beatrix Potter, will premiere this weekend in London and at the Royalty Cinema in Bowness on December 17. The film stars Renée Zellweger in the lead role and Ewan McGregor as her publisher and fiancée. The film was shot in the Lake District and Isle of Man and will go on general release on January 5 2007.
