Breezing Down Broadway

Pop Around The Clock

Cre8 Theatre will be performing their brand new show ‘Pop Around The Clock’ at the Pickerings Hotel in Garstang on the 11th August. The show will feature songs from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 00’s, including ‘I Want You Back’ by the Jackson Five, ‘The Scientist’ by Coldplay and an a cappella version of ‘Stand By Me’ by Ben E King.

Morecambe Bay Sandcastle Festival

Morecambe is set to host its first ever sandcastle festival next month. The Morecambe Bay Sandcastle Festival will take place on Sunday 19 August on the beach just south of the Midland Hotel.

Lancaster City Council has recently imported thousands of tons of sand onto Morecambe’s beaches as part of a sea defence project.

There will be separate competitions for teams of adults and children, with a maximum of 4 members in each team. The winning adult team will win a cash prize of £100, while the victorious children’s team will receive gift vouchers.

Liverpool FC unveil plans for new stadium

Liverpool Football Club has unveiled revised plans for their new stadium set to replace Anfield in 2010. The radical redesign by American architects HKS includes an 18,000-seat, single-tier Kop and unique glass-fronted corners providing views into the stadium.

Plans for the stadium have been submitted to Liverpool City Council for approval. It is designed to hold 60,000 supporters, although its capacity could be extended around 80,000.

Heritage railway celebrates 20 years

The East Lancashire Railway is celebrated its 20th birthday yesterday with a re-enactment of the first train journey on the heritage line. A plaque to mark the occasion was unveiled at Bolton Street train station in Bury.

Masterpieces to go on show at Tate Liverpool

Masterpieces from the Tate Collection will be come to Liverpool for the first time to help celebrate the city’s status as European Capital of Culture 2008. The new displays will open at the Tate Liverpool on September 29 and will include Rodin’s The Kiss, Degas’ Little Dancer Aged Fourteen, Picasso’s Weeping Woman and Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Diptych.

Hacienda exhibition at Urbis

Peter Hook, Ian Brown and Shaun Ryder were at Urbis last week to celebrate the launch of an exhibition to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the opening of Manchester’s Hacienda nightclub. Hacienda 25 The Exhibition : Fac 491 runs until February 17 2008 and includes the complete collection of the Hacienda’s iconic birthday posters, previously unseen video footage taken in the club, and items from the personal collections of Tony Wilson, Peter Saville and Ben Kelly.

Minister to visit Lake District

Jonathan Shaw, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for the Environment, will visit the Lake District later this week. During his visit, on July 26, he will be shown the osprey chicks at Bassenthwaite Lake and walk up Latrigg Fell near Keswick to view the construction of a new path for the disabled.

Jonathan Shaw said, ‘I am delighted to be visiting the Lake District to see what the National Park is doing to benefit the landscape, wildlife and people. Our National Parks are a great example of the joined-up approach we need to protecting the countryside while addressing social and environmental challenges such as climate change and the need for rural jobs and affordable housing. I want to help the National Parks encourage as many people as possible from all walks of life to enjoy the natural environment and the outdoor life, supporting rural communities at the same time.’

Free bus service to Towneley Park

A new free bus service has been launched to ferry visitors between Burnley town centre and Towneley Park. The Towneley Shuttle will run every hour, on the hour, between noon and 4pm, taking passengers from Burnley bus station to the park. The service will run in the summer months on weekends and bank holidays.

Rochdale Canal Festival

A 2-week festival to encourage use of the Rochdale Canal kicks off tomorrow with a fun day by the canal at Ealees. Littleborough. Those attending will be given the opportunity to take part in a range of activities including kayaking, angling, and biking. Entertainment will be provided by the Littleborough Public Brass Band the Rochdale Morris Dancers. Entrance and all activities are free of charge. The event will run from 11 am until 4 pm.
