Bolton landlord organises smoking ban protest

June 1st, 2007

The landlord of a popular Bolton pub is planning a protest against England’s new smoking ban on the day it comes into law. Nick Hogan of The Swan is inviting smokers to light up in his pub on July 1 and is prepared to go to court.

On July 1 2007 all enclosed public spaces and workplaces in England will become smoke free. Anybody not complying with the law will be committing a criminal offence. Individuals flouting the law will receive a fixed penalty notice of £50, while the fine for failing to prevent smoking is a maximum of £2500.

Great, lets all go light up! Then it’ll still be the trashiest pub in Bolton!

  2. The Silver fox says:

Good for you not! I hope you get caught, and do you reakise you can get fined up to £2500 for each time you allow somebody to light up? Hopefuly, this means that an idiot such as yourself will not stay in business very long as you will most likely also lose your licence ha ha! What a complete moron you are.

Quie the little Hitler, aren’t ya silver ****? Prohibition of smoking is exactly what Hitler wanted - it’s the Nazis that thought of the idea to begin with. **** the smoking ban, **** the government and **** lemmings like you.

Take a hosepipe to the smokers and see them run off with their tails between their legs!

IT’S A SHAME ENGLISH PEOPLE CAN’T STICK TOGETHER LIKE THE FRENCH AND EVERYBODY IGNORE THE BAN. LOOKS LIKE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN ENJOY A CIGARETTE IN A WORKPLACE ARE PRISONERS.

    @The Silver Fox

A similar thing is happening at my local too. Luckily, quite a few of the locals are rather well off and have so far placed £60,000 into a newly set-up bank account, specifically to pay any fines and / or legal fees that may be incurred by continuing to allow smoking within those premises.

    And I’m one of ‘em.

The law will be changed. Not all smokers are evil, inconsiderate monsters, we just want separate areas, built and equipped properly in order to protect non-smokers and enforced properly. What’s so wrong with that?

we just lye down and take it, soon it will be how many units we are allowed to drink shame on us all for letting this happen,we have fought hundreds of years to live in a free world only to hand it all back to the goverment that is run by medical students wanting to make there mark, its a disgrace that we are not given a fare choice of venues that are smoke and smoke free,so i support the bolton landlord and wish him all the best in his fight well done.

This is typical of the new British mentality. There is no tolerance or freedom for the British individual, everyone is happy to be told what they can and cannot do.. well I,m not.The population is weak will not make a stand against anything any more, where are the freethinkers of this country. Have they noe the imagination to see that we are being controlled at every turn, we did n’t want a war but we got one we don’t want road pricing but you can be sure we will get it, the anti smoking brainwashed deserve our pity, are it is so apparent they are unable to think for themselves and realise that thi overreaction to smokers is a farce, Vive la France at least they stand up for themselves.

Smoking is a dirty habit which causes many people a great discomfort and creates a huge health risk so why should the wise amongst us ie the non smokers of this world have to be subjected to the foolish actions of the selfish few.
This isn’t a matter of standing up for your rights its clearly a message to the minority that smoking stinks!!!!

I see that I have hit a nerve with some people! I am not a “Hitler” as one of you has said. Howver, i will say this, I have worked in enough bars before the mosking ban came in where you could smoke in the puty but NOT at the bar itself, and seen enough morons just ignore this! Some smokers are considerate,in fact I would say the majority are, and would respect this. However, there a few unfortunately who would not, no matter how many no - smoking at the bar signs were in place or how many times you asked them not to. Some people are just TOO f***ing IGNORANT, some I suspect have posted here.

Just vote these idiots out at the next ellection. When they loose their fat ministerial salaries they might understand that they are in power to represent the people & not themselves.

I don’t smoke in the day but when I have a quiet drink in the evening, I like to have a fag. It’s when I want to relax in the company of my mates but now I have to run outside for a fag and run back in for a sip thanks very much to those in government. I hardly go out now and neither do a lot of people I know because we are treated like second class citizens but paying premium money to be in a pub. If only anyone stands up to this ridiculous law. Let me know if anyone wants to do a riot to the palace of Westminster
I presume they will now live forever with the smoking ban in place. Sincerely I wish they would live forever in this pathetic existence. I won’t be sharing that space

Hooray for the hitler movement(Labour Party Britain). Fuhrer Jack implemented the ban in Scotland, and at the first election after that the SNP are now in power. Labour had been in control of Scotland for sixty (60) years. Fuhrer Jack (the arrogant little bastard) stated, THIS IS MY LEGACY TO SCOTLAND. WELL FUHRER JACK. THE ELECTION WAS SCOTLANDS LEGACY TO YOU.
