Budget hotel operator offering rooms at £9 per night

Budget hotel operator Travelodge is currently offering rooms at just £9 per night.

The offer is available on this special page on their website and is valid for bookings made now for stays between February and April 2009.

Rooms for other dates are also available from £19 and £29 provided bookings are made 7 and 21 days ahead respectively.

Wirral firework displays

Wirral Council is holding a number of firework displays on Bonfire Night, Wednesday November 5 2008.

The venues for the displays are:

Birkenhead Park
, Birkenhead
Central Park, Wallasey
Lingham Park, Moreton
Mayer Park, Bebington
Upton Park, Moreton
Mersey Park, Tranmere
Woodchurch Community Centre, Woodchurch
Leasowe Adventure Playground, Leasowe

All the displays start at 6.30 pm and are free. Leasowe will also host a community bonfire.

Doctor Who Costumed Character Weekend

Spaceport in Birkenhead plays host to a host of Dr Who characters this weekend. Visitors to the space-themed attraction will be greeted by Daleks and other stars of the series. John Leeson, the voice of K9, will also make a personal appearance.

Travelodge offering rooms at only £19 and opening new hotels

Travelodge has announced that it will open 22 hotels across the country between now and Christmas. New hotels in the North West will include the Travelodge Blackpool Tower and the Travelodge Blackpool Tower. Both are opening late December.

The budget hotel group is currently offering thousands of rooms at only £19 for stays in December and January. They can be booked via this special page on their website.

International Guitar Festival of Great Britain

The International Guitar Festival of Great Britain returns to Birkenhead next month for the 20th year running. The event kicks off on November 4 at the Pacific Road Arts Centre with a performance by Eddi Reader, formerly of Fairground Attraction, and runs until November 28.

Venues include the Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead Town Hall, Birkenhead Priory, the Pacific Road Arts Centre, and the Floral Pavilion Theatre in New Brighton.

Visitors rocket at Spaceport

Spaceport at Birkenhead has recorded record visitor numbers for the first 9 months of 2008. The space-themed attraction at Seacombe Ferry Terminal has seen visitor number rocket from 47,500 in 2007 to 87,500 this year.

Dog ban rejected

A plan to ban dogs from Wirral beaches was overturned by Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council’s Tourism Committee last night.

Under the proposed scheme dogs would have been banned from beaches during the summer months. The proposal was deemed to be too expensive and difficult to enforce. It was decided that extra bins would be provided at entrances to beaches and additional notices erected warning owners of the penalties for not clearing up after their dogs.

Vintage vehicles on display

A display of vintage vehicles at Birkenhead Park this weekend is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors.

Organised by the Lions Club and the Wirral Transport Museum, Transport Through The Ages will feature around 80 classic cars and commercial vehicles plus four steam boats.

There will also be steam driven fairground rides, street entertainers, and displays.

The event takes place at Birkenhead Park on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September 2008.
