City centre parking plan shelved

Plans to introduce parking charges in Manchester city centre on Sundays and in the evenings have been shelved after massive opposition from businesses and residents. Councillor Neal Swannick, who proposed the controversial scheme stated ‘As the overwhelming majority of responses to the consultation from city centre residents, workers, businesses and their customers alike have been hostile to these proposals, I have no hesitation in withdrawing them.’
