easyJet asks passengers not to pay security surcharge
December 29th, 2006Budget airline easyJet is asking its passengers not to pay the £2 security surcharge that Liverpool John Lennon Airport will introduce in the New Year. The airline says it has a long-term contract with Liverpool Airport that already includes all security services provided to its customers.
Andy Harrison, easyJet Chief Executive, said ‘Liverpool Airport is acting improperly by trying to double charge the airlines’ customers for something that we have already paid for and we will not let them do it. There is a lot of interest in the value of UK airports to overseas companies at the moment and it is highly likely that Liverpool Airport’s owners will be attempting to make its finances look as attractive as possible, but we will not allow our passengers to be charged just to benefit Peel Airport Holdings.’
