Work has begun on a scheme to replace overhead power lines in picturesque areas of North West with underground cables.

United Utilities and Electricity North West have recently replaced over 1 mile of lines in the Lake District’s Martindale Valley.

Gerard Fisher of United Utilities said: ‘The Martindale valley is renowned for its beauty. This scheme will restore the area to an unspoilt state, allowing visitors to enjoy this spectacular landscape as it was always meant to be seen. It’s a first for the area.’
