Lake District to seek World Heritage Site status

Cumbria County Council has voted to seek World Heritage Site status for the Lake District. Concerns have been raised that this would lead to tighter planning restrictions and threaten the region’s tourism industry. However, these have been dismissed by a specially commissioned report.
