Last Chance to See the Crosby Statues
October 19th, 2006Sefton Council have refused planning permission to allow controversial statues to remain on Crosby Beach. The exhibit, Another Place, features 100 iron casts of artist Antony Gormley spread along 3 km of shoreline, some almost 1 km out at sea.
Councillors have cited health and safety reasons for their removal as children have been swimming out to the sculptures. They will be removed on October 31 and could next appear in New York.

I travelled to Crosby specially from North Wales to see the figures today. Wonderful! These are the things I wouldn’t have done had they not been there :
1. I wouldn’t have travelled to Crosby in the first place
2. I wouldn’t have had a long walk in the fresh air
3. I wouldn’t have spent money in the area
4, I wouldn’t have had such a wonderful day!

I visited Crosby with a friend, she had already seen the statues and felt it was worth another visit and to share this with me. I didnt really know what to expect but they were surreal. It would be a shame to move these statues when they bring so much interest from all over the country.

As a artist myself these statues represent part of the art and culture which is found in Liverpool. These statues must stay. They will improve with age, and eventually will be well known around the world. They have inspired myself and a lot of artists to create from them.
