Its fantastic to see Manchesters festive European markets back again! This year we were lucky enough to have some organic growth in the market for the first time in many years. The market has now spread to outside of Harvey Nichols with traditional stalls, plus down Brazennose Street (opposite Albert Square, down to Deansgate) where a German winebar with traditional food sits.
All in all this is the best the markets have ever been!

I also love the christmas markets in Manchester,in response to Ross who mentioned about the organic growth on the market this year,i noticed a lovely looking stall selling lots of organic wines and spirits, and lovely organic christmas chocs and other special items of food, they were all very reasonably priced and i actually purchased some rose wine which was also biodynamic[i have since found out what this means]and i must say it was absolutely the most beautiful wine i have ever tasted,we had friends over for dinner and they were very impressed, but one thing i noticed was the stall was very quiet in comparison to the other stalls on a busy Saturday afternoon and i did mention this to the lady running the stall and she admitted sales were incredibly slow.this surprised me as i thought we were entering a time where we all care about what we consume, but it seems that organics in manchester is still very slow on the uptake, while i was talking to the young lady some passers by actually scoffed about ‘organics’to one another, on there way to Macdonalds no doubt! the lady said it happens often and that people still after all the media and tv coverage about health do not see how eating organic food is beneficial for us,this is madness! this is not some passing fad or trend it is simply common sense.i was incensed to hear that the lady on the stall has forked out a lot of her hard earned money to pay for a place on the christmas market as she wanted to promote organic food in manchester, she was very passionate about this but yet has been taking no sales whatsoever some days,i asked if the council had offered any help or support and they have offered no help whatsoever. Its apparent to me that the council are using these poor people as guinea pigs, they want them on their market so they can say they have been making an effort to promote organics in the city but at whose expense i ask!certainly not Manchester city council! well done to the people on the market selling organics for at least providing us the few people who actually appreciate good food and wine, with great quality produce and thumbs down to the council bigwigs sat in their little offices taking the praise for doing absolutely nothing whatsoever.
