MTV Europe Music Awards 2008
October 31st, 2007Liverpool has been chosen to host the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards. The event will take place at the new Liverpool Echo Arena, due to open in January 2008. It will be the third time that the awards have been held in the UK.
Richard Godfrey, Senior Vice President Content & Music, MTV, said, ‘It is fantastic to be back in the UK and it is only natural that Liverpool should host the fifteenth annual Europe Music Awards. Not only is it the European Capital of Culture next year but the influence of its rich music heritage is still felt today. The state-of-the-art Echo Arena Liverpool is the perfect venue for such a large-scale multi-platform event as the Europe Music Awards and will give us the opportunity to bring newer and more exciting elements to next year’s show.’
Other events and concerts confirmed at the new venue include Westlife, the Liberal Democrats Spring Conference, Dancing on Ice, and CBeebies Live.

Great news! Liverpool beat Cardiff and Manchester to win this - and it was a commercial enterprise rather than a Government decision so the usual “regional capitals” who get the usual favours were not favoured this time.
This is more evidence that there is just one city in the so-called “North West” that really has global profile and reach. Pity about the “north west” branding on some of this, it gets in the way of the Liverpool city region brand that is the real winner here.
If we need this “North West” stuff, because Government insists, can it not be kept invisible. The real market, and real people, don’t seem to know what it means.

i am a big music fan, from singing in the shower to given it my all on the bus!! its finally going to all happen in liverpool, which in my eyes has always been a city with top talents in all departments….an now its going to be for the world to see along with this new amazing arena! cant wait for tickets!

Im glad im not the only one waiting for tickets to come out. Some news on when they will be coming out would be nice. Or will this just be another one of Liverpool’s big events that will be added to the shame list?

I can tell you all tickets have NOT been allocated and sold i work for Liverpool city council and of course the usual amount of tickets will be sold/given to coporate parties but they WILL be going on general sale sometime early May! good luck.

Well i saw a concert in the liverpool echo arena on 27th may and asked in the box office about these mtv award tickets and was advised they are not yet on sale!
