Pathetic
October 13th, 2006Manchester Airport is to set to begin charging people for collecting passengers from its terminals. From November 1, drivers will no longer be able to pick up passengers from outside Terminal 1 and will instead be directed to park on the short-stay car park, where they will have to pay £1.80 for the privilege of 30 minutes parking. The 10 minutes of free parking currently allowed will no longer be offered. Similar changes will be rolled out to Terminals 2 and 3 over the next few months.
Officials claim the move will improve the ‘experience for passengers’, increase road safety and are an important part of their ‘environmental ambitions’. What a load of pathetic corporate bullshit. If you really want to improve our ‘experience’ try cutting the queues, reduce the prices of your overpriced drinks and food, and don’t lose our bags. But of course, these measures would cost the airport money. Directing everybody onto already congested car parks won’t reduce road accidents. We also think it’s just a little hypocritical for them to claim to have ‘environmental ambitions’ given that the construction of their second runway resulted in the destruction of more than 100 acres of greenbelt land and ancient woodland.
