Traffic ban proposed in Carlisle
February 6th, 2007Vehicles could soon be banned from Carlisle’s Botchergate under a plan to cut the risk of drink related accidents. The ban would operate at night between 7.30 pm and 5 am from Thursday to Saturday. It has been proposed by the police in response to a growing number of accidents involving drunken pedestrians and motorists. The police also believe the open space will create a better atmosphere and ease tension between drinkers.
Cumbria County Council’s transport advisory group will discuss the proposal on Thursday. The final decision will be made by the Carlisle Local Committee.
