Rheged
Rheged is an award-winning visitor attraction situated 2 miles west of Penrith. Housed in Europe’s largest grass covered building, it is named after Cumbria’s ancient Celtic Kingdom. Since opening in 2000 it has welcomed more than 2 million visitors.
From outside Rheged looks like just another Lakeland hill, but inside you find an IMAX cinema showing a selection of large format movies, and the Helly Hansen National Mountaineering Exhibition.
The attraction is also home to a number of speciality shops including:
- Tipple – Sells Cumbrian beer and Scottish Whisky
- Made in Cumbria – Candles, pottery and other locally produced goods
- Saunders Chocolate Workshop – Watch chocolates being made
- Mountain Life – Outdoor and adventure clothing
- Taste! Food Hall – Sells locally produced cheeses, sauces, bread and more
