British Commercial Vehicle Museum

The British Commercial Vehicle Museum in Leyland is home to a unique display of beautifully restored commercial vehicles.

It is housed in an old factory building once owned by Leyland Motors and staffed almost entirely by elderly volunteers dedicated to preserving the history of the UK’s road transport industry.

Location

The museum is situated on King Street in Leyland town centre, approximately 10 minutes walk from the train station.

Opening Times

The museum is open on weekends from 10 am to 5 pm between February and October. Extended opening times apply during Lancashire school holidays and bank holidays. Check the official website before setting off.

I watched the TV programme and now I have visited - twice. This is no museum, it is an experience. The vehicles are very impressive, the guides a font of knowledge and the photographs of a past world fascinating. Everyone should visit and see for themselves. This place needs our support.

Having watched the BBC television programme, I took the children. What a treat. The boys (and my husband) were in seventh heaven. I loved looking at the old photographs and having tea and cakes in the cafe. Errol was there!

The museum was very interesting. Leyland was dire.

There's about 50 vehicles on display. It's a little dark but worth a visit. The old buses and fire engines are fascinating.
