Gisburn
Gisburn (formerly Gisburne) is a picturesque village in the Ribble Valley, roughly halfway between Clitheroe and Skipton. Once part of Yorkshire, it is now officially in Lancashire; a fact disputed by many locals.
The A59 runs from Clitheroe to Gisburn, and on to Skipton. Take this route and you’ll pass Sawley Abbey and the Stirk House Hotel, about 1 mile from the village. On entering Gisburn the first thing you’ll see is the Gisburn Auction Mart, a lively agricultural market.
In the centre of the village the White Bull offers good food, real ales, and accommodation. A little further on is the medieval St Mary’s Church.
The Gisburne Park Hospital lies approximately ½ mile north of the village, on the banks of the River Ribble. This private medical facility is housed in a Grade I listed building, once the home of the Lords of Ribblesdale.
